Junior,
Madison Munn Wins 2008 AHS Concerto Competition
Centennial,
Colorado—The Third Annual Arapahoe High School Band Concerto Competition took
place in the Arapahoe Theatre on November 17, 2008. Madison Munn, Junior Clarinetist,
won the competition. She was awarded
$100.00, a trophy, and an engraved medal for her performance. Placing second was Junior Marimba Player,
Kevin Matthews. He was awarded a trophy,
and engraved medal and $75.00. In third
place was Senior Pianist, Wes Leffingwell.
Wes received $50.00, a trophy and an engraved medal. The other finalists (in alphabetical order)
included: Vikky DeLaTorre, Junior Horn
Player; Jordan Flatt, Senior Clarinetist; Emily Haller, Junior Flute Player;
Emily Haskins, Sophomore Flute Player; Nicole Jensen, Senior Clarinetist; and
Maureen Kosse, Senior Oboist. All
finalists received plaques for their performances.
The
competition was sponsored by Kolacny Music, Crystal Clear Recordings and the
Arapahoe Band Boosters. The coordinator
of the 2008 Concerto Competition was Mr. Jim Leffingwell.
The
top two seniors, who will also perform their concerto later in the year,
include Nicole Jensen (December) and Wes Leffingwell (May).
Judging
the 2008 Arapahoe Band Concerto Competition was a panel of Colorado Symphony
Musicians: Abby Raymond, Clarinet;
Patrick Tillery, Trumpet; and Bill Hill, Percussion. Dr. Ed Cannava is Arapahoe’s Director of
Bands.
