Congratulations to
the 2007 Concerto Competition Finalists!
Centennial, Colorado—The Second Annual Arapahoe High School Band Concerto Competition took place in the Arapahoe Theater on November 1, 2007. Roxy Steinberg, Senior Flutist, won the competition. She was awarded $100.00, a trophy, and an engraved medal for her performance. Placing second was Junior Pianist, Wes Leffingwell. He was awarded a trophy, an engraved medal, and $75.00. In third place was Senior Flutist, Abbe Haller. Abbe received $50.00, a trophy, and an engraved medal. The other two finalists included: Matt Cullen, Senior Bassoonist, and Vikky DeLaTorre, Sophomore Horn Player. Both musicians received plaques for their performances.
The competition was sponsored by Kolacny Music, Crystal Clear Recordings, Terry and Beth Cassara, and the Arapahoe Band Boosters. The coordinator of the 2007 Concerto Competition was Mr. Terry Cassara, past Vice-President of the Arapahoe Band Boosters.
The top three seniors, who will also perform their concerto later in the year, include: Matt Cullen (December), Abbe Haller (March), and Roxy Steinberg (May).
Judging the 2007 Arapahoe Band Concerto Competition was a panel of Colorado Symphony Musicians: Andrew Stevens, Clarinet; Patrick Tillery, Trumpet; and John Kinzie, Percussion. Dr. Ed Cannava is Arapahoe’s Director of Bands.
