AHS Dixie Dawgs to Perform at Summit Jazz 2007

 

Centennial, Colorado—The Dry Creek Dixie Dawgs from Arapahoe High School have been invited to perform at the Annual Summit Jazz Festival on September 30, 2007. Arapahoe’s combo is the only youth band performing at the 2007 festival. Summit Jazz 2007 takes place from September 28 through September 30, and is located at the Four Points by Sheraton Denver Southeast, (6363 East Hampden Ave.) Featured professional bands include: The Jim Cullum Jazz Band from San Antonio, Texas; Titan Hot Seven from Nashville, TN; Jean Kittrell and the St. Louis Rivermen from St. Louis, MO; Ivory and Gold from Mystic, CT; The Alan Frederickson Jazz Ensemble from Denver, Colorado; and the Summit Jazz All Stars (Jeff Barnhart, piano; Ken Peplowski, clarinet; Duke Heitger, cornet; Colin Gieg, bass; and Danny Koots, drums).

 

The Dry Creek Dixie Dawgs will perform on Sunday, September 30 starting at 10:00 a.m.  Professional sets will continue through the afternoon until 5:15 p.m. The Dixie Dawgs have performed in the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee six times, and in 2003, 2006, and 2007, won the prestigious Downbeat National Music Magazine’s Outstanding Jazz Performance Award.

 

Members of the Dry Creek Dixie Dawgs include: Madison Munn (clarinet), Eddie Lyon (tenor sax), Melanie Brown (cornet), Dave Ellis (trombone), Nicole Jensen (banjo), Wes Leffingwell (piano), Alex James (tuba), and Kevin Matthews (drums).
