College Planning Night

WHAT: College Planning Night
WHEN: Wednesday January 18, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.
WHERE: 6860 S. University, across from The Streets at SouthGlenn.
WHY: This informational evening will instruct parents and high school students on the college search and admissions process and will include valuable information on “free money” sources such as grants/stipends/scholarships for college tuition, as well as college loans and savings strategies for college planning. Hosted by Huntington Learning Center of Centennial, this event features experts on critical aspects of college planning. Speakers will speak on topics of interest to parents and students facing the bewildering array of possibilities for finding and financing the best fit for their college experience. There will be time available for questions, and refreshments will be served.
Kathryn Miller, Independent Educational Consultant and founder of Miller Educational Consulting Inc., will present
An Introduction to the College Search & Admissions Process. Some topics she will cover include:
- "What Happens Now" in high school, "What Happens Then" in college
- Top 10 strengths and experiences colleges look for in a student
- How do you determine the best college fit for you?
- How do you get started, and what is next?
- A general timeline for planning
Roger Buswell, Certified Financial Planner and owner of Buswell Associates Inc, will present
An Introduction to Financial Aid and Paying for College. Some topics he will cover include:
- Strategies for saving to pay for college
- “Free” tuition money such as grants/stipends/scholarships
- Loans
- Common mistakes to avoid when considering financial aid
