Last writing day for the "Colored Me" piece. |
|
Thu, Jan 21
|
Today we began the editing/revising portion of our "Colored Me" essay. We are reading our piece looking for the tone. Then, in the Classes folder, we answered questions about our piece. Lastly, passing our drafts to our peers, we labeled what we thought the tone of their piece was, what was really strong, and labeled areas that needed more. |

Ok...finally getting my act together and updating the homework/assignments! Please see the above days for what we did in class. Because we do not have much homework, you need to come see me right away if absent, because we will have worked all hour on a piece. Points come from completing tasks in class, so you will need to show me your work that you will make up outside of class.
For TODAY, you need to have completed your 1st draft, questions/reflections, and gotten notes from your peers on tone of the piece, praises and critiques.
In class today, we are doing the 2nd day of editing/revising and adding babystepping and a thoughtshot to our pieces. Answer those questions as well. By the end of the hour, turn in your 1st and 2nd drafts.

Tue, Apr 6

Today we discussed how we are moving from memoir (highly narrative and descriptive) to a Review paper, then to the Pet Peeves essay, and now the Process Paper. We looked at various versions and discussed 2 types: process instruction which DOES use "you" as it assumes the reader will use the instructions as a guide or process explanation which DOES NOT use "you" as you are allowing the reader to understand something better, but not to accomplish it, necessarily. The 4 ideas were to write about 1) something you know how to do well; 2) something the authors of the The Worst Case Scenario books would enjoy; 3) something funny (start with an embarrassing moment and then explain how not to do that); or 4) something ridiculous (how to get an elephant off your roof).
We will finish these in class on Thursday.
