We set up our class lpsk12.org accounts and wrote a paragraph as a test for the GoogleApps program. We then used our lpsk12.org email to test the email system. HW: none

 Fri, Aug 27

Today we took notes over inductive vs. deductive thinking, inferences, setting purpose, and textual evidence. We practiced inductive thinking with famous pieces of art analyzing the body language, color symbolism, object placement, etc. We used the specific information to figure out a general conclusion about the story of the artwork. We then read "The House" and discovered the importance of knowing the purpose of WHY we are READING, so that we are efficient and effective readers.

HW: add a page that deals with something you did over the summer; it can be a photo, a drawing, a writing, a collage, an item, a brochure, a ticket...due Monday.

Mon, Aug 30

Today in class we reviewed inductive vs. deductive thinking and how it applies to reading. We practiced with 2 Norman Rockwell paintings. We then took the Literary Elements and Devices Assessment as well as the plot line assessment. We began to discuss the matching terms with the definitions. We then applied the new information to a politically correct bedtime story.

HW: fill in the Exposition (3-4 bullets) and the Rising Action (3-4 bullets) in your Short Story Workbook.

Tue, Aug 31

Today in class, we wrote another descriptive paragraph about your summer experience, this time focusing on sensory details. We then, completed the plot line for the politically correct story. We then started to practice what we been studying: inductive thinking and think-alouds/annotations as we read. We started "The Utterly Perfect Murder." HW: none

Wed, Sep 1

We continued and finished reading "The Utterly Perfect Murder" by Ray Bradbury. We annotated, putting our thinking on the text.

HW: go back through the story to find a minimum of 3 quotes that PROVE to you that Doug Spaulding is sane and a minimum of 3 quotes that PROVE to you that Doug Spaulding is insane. Put your findings on your Psychiatrist's chart on p. 23 of Short Story packet.
