Assignment

Mon, Jan 5

Today, we are srting to think about themes from Romeo and Juliet and background information we already know about Shakespeare or the play itself. To begin the process, consider your own qualities for a Perfect Mate. Romeo and Juliet chose each other as mates and they were only your ages! Is it possible as a teenager? Could your parents choose a person to marry? Would they pick similar qualities? Fill out the Perfect Mate form and have a parent, guardian, etc. fill out the opposite side. This is due Tuesday.

As background for the Middle Ages, Shakespeare, and Romeo and Juliet, you are researching one focused topic within these. Find 5 specific facts, include a Works Cited, and complete a model that is creativity and more visual than words. This is due on Monday.

Mon, Jan 12

You had a sub on Monday and presented your projects. In 2nd hour a few of you will need to present on Wed. The sub said you all did an excellent job creating interesting and creative projects. I am excited to see them!

 Tue, Jan 13

In class, we discussed the Book of Days project. HERE is a document that contains: 1) directions (I will give you a copy in class as well) and 2) an example of my typed pages for the Book of Days. Your cover taped/glued onto the art tablet is due on Thursday; you need your name and the title BOOK OF DAYS somewhere on the cover. Think about the theme you would like to stretch through your book (even if it's colors) and use them on the cover page.

We then, in preparation for a study of poetry and poetic devices as we read Romeo and Juliet, drew a symbolic representation of our hearts. This heart drawing, including words, symbols, pictures, color and/or shading is due tomorrow. The following are the directions for the Heart Drawing.

The Position Paper starts today! The great news about the position paper is that there are many points available of which 1/2 are earned by simply meeting the deadlines and goals...compliance. The other 1/2 will be from your writing score on the piece. Much of the research needs to be done out of class as there are not computers available to us. You need to stay on top of this and computer issues are possible for each of us, so plan for this making time in the library, on an off hour, after school, or at a friend's house. It is essential you meet the deadlines.

To generate topics that interest us, we are starting with some personality tests. These will help us determine our inherent strengths and weaknesses and, figure out some career possibilities. Once we research these, we can find topics with multiple viewpoints to argue for our position paper.

Start here with the Career Webquest printing the NOTES page to fill out as you go through the steps on the website. Here's another personality test that will give you info about yourself: http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/humanbody/mind/surveys/art/
