“When it comes to the future, there are three kinds

of people: those who let it happen, those who make

it happen, and those who wonder what happened.”

~John M. Richardson, Jr.

Assignment

Wed, Jan 6

Beginning this semester with images of the 7 deadly sins, we are taking notes over the definitions and messages. HW: bring a article that showcases a modern deadly sin.

Fri, Jan 8

Today we are discussing modern examples of the deadly sins. We analyzed our articles looking for the sin and the idea of redemption. We took notes over Dante and his concepts of the circles of hell. Make sure you get these notes from someone, if you were absent.

Mon, Jan 11

In the computer lab, we are doing a summary/response to a reading over creation stories. You will have a section from Genesis, Qur'an, and other cultures' creation stories. The top paragraph needs to be a paragraph including 3 pieces of textual evidence with proper citation summarizing the piece. Then, add a paragraph that discusses your ideas, questions, wonderings, etc. in relation to that text. Again, if absent, make sure you get a text from me to complete the summary/response assignment.

 Wed, Jan 13

Sharing our creation stories in a Jigsaw activity, we are beginning to get a sense of concepts of the afterlife as viewed through historical texts. Then, we chose our groups for the project and the beginning of the project is explained.

 Fri, Jan 15

In class, we are viewing a youtube clip that reads a small section of Milton's "Paradise Lost." We are trying to understand the concepts of Satan's denial to God and why he chose to remain in hell. Looking at this text, we see one author's account of wrongdoing and consequences related to pride. We have in-class points figuring out the message of the excerpt.

Fill at least the lined side of your note card with your thoughts about our guiding questions. Here are some thoughts to consider

nWhat patterns are emerging for you in terms of how society, both modern and antiquated, view the idea of human wrongdoing?
--What are the consequences of those wrongdoings?
--What, then, does this suggest about humanity and its concept of good vs. evil?
--Do you agree with this conceptualization?
--Why or why not?
--Lastly, what did you learn from your interviews about the above?

Wed, Mar 17

HW: Montage satire assignment due.
