Being in a smaller content area, we have the great opportunity to collaborate across the district with business teachers at both Heritage and Littleton High Schools. We rotate our PLC meetings between the three high school locations.
Each PLC group is working on defining essential learnings and developing one common assessment per semester. We are also working on techniques to analyze the data from common assessments once they are administered.
We have found this time to be incredibly valuable to share best practices and have productive dialogue about what students should know (essential learnings) by the time they leave our courses and how can we best help them accomplish this learning.
Teachers in the AHS Business Department are part of two District Wide PLCs. These include:
1. Business & Marketing PLC (divided into sub groups listed below)
- Business Technology I
- Web Design
- Marketing
- Personal Finance
2. Alternative Cooperative Education (ACE) PLC
One of the responsibilities of the School Business Liaison is to form a link between the educational walls and the business community-at-large. In conjunction with individual and personalized career planning, career exploration and experiential opportunities, students develop a greater understanding of their strengths, talents and interests. This understanding serves as a guide when selecting options and making decisions for the additional education and training necessary to attain occupational success, self-fulfillment and a sense of contribution to the community.
The School Business Liaison PLC Best Practices for ACE direction for 2008-09 includes goals, objectives, related activities/assessments and resources/materials for a comprehensive ACE (Alternative Cooperative Education) curriculum. Units included are:
- Introduction
- Personal Inventory
- Work Place Expectations
- Career Planning
- Career Exploration
- Labor Laws/Wages
- Community Employment Experience
- Student Portfolio
