Family and Consumer Sciences has been working as a district-wide, high school level PLC.  In August of 2007 we began work on revisions to our existing curriculum for Foods and Nutrition, Cultural Foods, and Gourmet Foods.  It was our belief that a change was necessary in order to have our programs align with new culinary career pathway guidelines (Catering) giving our students increased knowledge and skills for both personal and professional use.  It has allowed us to make our curriculum more rigorous meeting both state and national standards.  In addition, it is now an approved program through the Colorado Community College System generating reimbursible funds for the district.

The 2007-2008 school year was used to develop our new curriculum and attend professional develpment classes to prepare us for the change in curriculum.  The new curriculum was approved by the district's board of education last May and teachers then attended a week-long culinary class at Johnson & Wales University.

This fall we implemented the new curriculum, now called Culinary Essentials I and Culinary Essentials II.  We are working on our common assessment, planning and preparing a catered event.  A second common assessment has been discussed and both will be adopted by the end of the school year.
