Goals for the year
The high school Tech Ed PLC is working to amend/update the activities and the performance-based formative assessments in Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing. The CAD module uses a solid modeling program called SolidWorks©. The software is used at all of the engineering colleges in the state and also sees widespread use in industry. SolidWorks© was updated, district wide, this fall. So it was time to update tutorial lessons, quiz/reviews, and performance assessments.
The Manufacturing module has been rearranged to define the area better and spark the interest of students. The CNC Mill and Lathe can be intimidating, so the curriculum has been reorganized to introduce the student to the equipment and software gently. New lessons and performance assessments were written to involve both the CNC Mill and Lathe within the first module.
Successes
Both the CAD and Manufacturing modules have been rewritten to include SMART Goals to guide the students. SMART goals are strategic or specific, measurable, attainable, results-oriented, and time-bound. The students in Tech Studies are all potentially working toward different SMART Goals within the different modules, but the essential learning’s are all similar, regardless of the area of study.
